This is a closeup view of one of the goldfish. Notice how the grain of the cherry splits down the fish's back. The dorsel fins are white oak that was pickeled white. This job was done while I was living in Upstate New York. The "blue wood" surrounding the goldfish is Ash that has been pickeled flourescent blue. Pickeling is a process of using a water based paint and diluting it with water. You apply this mixture just like a stain and after letting it penetrate for about a minute you wipe off all the color you can. The blue remains and gives the effect that the blue is the natural color in the wood and allows the grain to come thru. You can do this process with almost any water based color. I top coated this with a water based finish so that the color wasn't ambered like a solvent based finish would do. Click on the picture for more information.
