This border has several corners that make it interesting and unique. This kind of work is done by snapping a chalk line 18" away from walls, other floor surfaces, and of course fireplaces. The center floor is then installed over the chalk line. After the center is installed either diagonally to the walls as shown here or parallel to the walls, another chalk line is snapped allowing for the distance from the blade on the worm saw to the shoulder of the plate on the saw. A "dummy board" is then nailed and bent if necessary to conform to this straight chalk line. The flooring in the center called the "field" is then all cut at once. The cut edge is grooved in place with a router and a spline is put in the groove so that the border and the feild are tongue and grooved together. Click on the picture for more information.
