The Missing Money Puzzle illustrates how illogical logic can be.

The more I studied the Missing Money puzzle the more logical it became. First let me say it is not a Math problem or a Trick question but rather an Ethical question.

Who does the money the clerk kept belong to? It belongs to the three brothers of course. The clerk ripped the three brothers off for two dollars. They were supposed to get $5 and only got back $3.

That $2 becomes part of the cost of the room. The 3 brothers paid $27 for their room. $25 to the Motel and $2 to the thief. $25 + $2 = $27 which is the same $27 as 3x9 = $27. If you take the $27 the brothers paid and add the $3 they got back you get the $30. There is no missing money and never was.

With that said the following are true:

Ignorance of the victims does not mean it's not stealing. How many people today think just like the clerk? A Painter says," Hey they don't know they are supposed to get two coats of paint so I'll just give them one and pocket the difference. This type of thinking has become so common that it's not even seen as stealing anymore.

The clerk wanted to be compensated for a problem he created.

The $2 isn't just some extra $2. It belongs to the three brothers.

My questions are:

Do you know businesses that cheat their customers and think it's OK because the customers don't realize they have been cheated?

Can you have fun with this one?

So what does the Missing Money
have to do with Wood Floors?

EVERYTHING

There are people in the flooring business who think just like the clerk does..." They don't know so it's open season on ripping them off or shortchanging them".

In Fact people that think this way are a dime a dozen in the flooring business ( Actually I think it's now 54 cents a dozen when inflation and sales tax are figured in)

If you want someone who thinks this way working on your floors, then quite honestly I'm not your man.

It's against my ethics and personal company policy. My policy is, " They don't know so I'll teach them."

I do ask that you don't print out this page as it's one of the many ways I get traffic to my websites. You can print out the Missing Money and circulate it to your heart's content. You really want to have fun give it to the teller the next time you go to the bank.

Please email me with experiences you have with this puzzle. I used to go around town and leave this in Bank night depositories with no explanation. I actually had a Bank Officer call me up and tell me he wanted to share it but wanted me to tell him the answer first so he didn't feel like an idiot. Scary ! !

Or the customer who I gave it to and she shook her head and gave it to her ten year old. She got out her calulator and put in 3 x 9 = 27 + 2 = 29 . She was amazed. Her Calulator was even wrong. (grin)

I have seen people counting on fingers and convinced Math had magically become non-functioning.

I have also found that sometimes the Brightest people have the hardest time with it. It's Simplicity makes it even more bewildering.

Have FUN
